ZDHC is a multi-stakeholder group consisting of brands, retailers, value chain affiliates and contributors, whose ambition is to eliminate the use of hazardous chemicals within the production of textiles, footwear and apparel (www.roadmaptozero.com). Annually, the organisation holds a week of meetings targeting different stakeholders within the organisation as well as their Friends event. The annual ZDHC Contributor Meeting was held in Amsterdam on 5th December 2018. Eurofins | BLC attended the event as a new contributor (joining earlier this year), as well as a ZDHC Approved MRSL 2.0 Certifier (ZDHC Conformance Level 1 and ZDHC Conformance Level 3) with the Chem-MAP® Programme.
These events enable attendees to understand the approaches that ZDHC are currently undertaking in the role of responsible chemical management, and also discusses future projects, in an attempt to continue the success, and feedback what will be addressed in the future.
Whilst the content of the meetings is strictly confidential, what is clear is that the footwear, apparel sectors and their supply chains are becoming increasingly engaged with the importance of responsible chemical management, and the strive towards achieving zero discharge. The work that organisations like ZDHC does by addressing the concerns of chemical sustainability, enables those that are committed to verifying and managing the systems they have in place for the manufacturing of their goods to engage their entire systems supply chain from input through processing and output.
The goals that ZDHC is and continues to promote permits stakeholders to demonstrate their dedication to responsible chemical management.
