Seven New Substances of Very High Concern (SVHC) Added to ECHA Candidate List

Published 1st January 2018

Seven new chemicals have been added to the ECHA Candidate List, which now features 181 Substances of Very High Concern (SVHCs).

If your company retails, manufactures, imports or distributes products in the European Union which include any of the chemicals listed on the ECHA Candidate List, then you need to be aware of their acceptable limits and of this recent change.

What is the Risk of Non-Compliance?

The legal obligations that companies may have resulting from the inclusion of substances in the Candidate List may apply to the listed substances on their own, in mixtures or in articles. Products containing unacceptable levels of SVHCs not only pose a risk to consumers, but also to the workers who make the products as well as the environment. Unacceptable levels of SVHCs in a product can also result in a large-scale product recall, fines, brand reputation damage and ultimately, loss of revenue.

Find out if your products contain SVHCs

If your company retails, manufactures, distributes or imports products in the European Union, you need to know whether your products contain any SVHCs. Contact BLC today to discuss testing your products for SVHCs, REACH testing and MRSL testing on +44 (0)1604 679 999 or email info@chem-map.com

Update Your MRSLs and RSLs

Often, the SVHCs listed will be on a Manufacturing Restricted Substance List (MRSL), which is used as a checklist to ensure that no SVHCs have been used in the manufacturing process. Companies with MRSLs and Restricted Substance Lists (RSLs) will need to update their existing documentation to account for this change.

For support on creating, updating to testing to your MRSL or RSL, contact BLC today on +44 (0)1604 679 999 or email info@chem-map.com
